Pictou County Volunteer Ground Search And Rescue spent the day with Pictou County Forest School teaching the students, Wolves Group, some search techniques using RTT radios and GPS. They were split into two groups and outfitted with radios, GPS, compass, vests, and backpacks to find a “staged” missing person. They made reports back to radio operator who logged in findings and radio checks. They did have success on a raining wet day typical of a lot of real searches. After warming up they learned how to make a burrito wrap for someone who may suffer from hypothermia.
We hope this experience will create new volunteers in the future.
